Ekadashi Alone: A Journey Towards Self-Companionship
27th February. Ekadashi.
A day of fasting. A day of discipline. A day of spiritual awareness.
This time, I am in Kolkata, staying alone. Earlier, I was not someone who could step out alone so easily. Even within my own society, I hesitated. But life slowly teaches us the abilities we never imagined we would need.
Sometimes the person we depend on the most leaves us. After that, we are forced to face loneliness, anxiety, and silent pain that cannot be explained in words.
Maybe I am late in learning — but I am learning.
And today, I decided to step out alone for Bhutnath Temple.
🚆 Waiting at the Station: Observing Strength

After finishing my household chores and bathing, I left for Santragachi station.
It was office time. The platform near the ladies’ compartment was crowded.
As I waited for the train, I observed the working women around me. I wondered how early they must have woken up — cooking, cleaning, managing home — and now rushing for work. After returning in the evening, responsibilities would still be waiting for them.
In this expensive era, what choice do people have?
Life becomes busy. Messy. Fast.
Yet everyone keeps moving.
That moment made me respect their courage deeply.

🌊 The Ferry & The Lesson of the River

| The ferry and the lesson of the river. |
I reached Howrah and bought a small ferry ticket.
While waiting, I watched the Ganga.
The river flows calmly, carrying dirt, waste, and everything thrown into it. Yet it never complains. It simply keeps flowing.
There was heat, waiting, movement — and then finally, I got a seat on the ferry.
The breeze touched my face.
It felt like a quiet reward.
Life is exactly like that. We endure heat and waiting — and then relief arrives silently.
For the first time, I did not feel lonely. I was alone, but peaceful.
⛪ Temple Peace

I offered my prayers at Bhutnath Temple and later visited the nearby Vaishnavi Mata temple.
The sound of bells, the fragrance of incense, the positive energy — everything felt calming.
I sat quietly for some time.
No hurry.
No overthinking.
Just presence.

🌬 When I Took the Wrong Ferry
While returning, something unexpected happened.
I accidentally boarded the wrong ferry.
For a moment, I realized my mistake — but surprisingly, I wasn’t upset.
Instead, I smiled.
The ferry moved further, and I got more time with the river breeze.
Sometimes wrong decisions give right happiness.
Life is also like this ferry.
We plan to return quickly.
But sometimes we move a little further — and discover unexpected calmness.
🌸 Colours of Life
On my way back home, I saw school girls covered in Holi colours.
Their laughter was full of excitement.
It reminded me that every stage of life has its own colour. Some stages teach responsibility.
Some teach patience. Some teach independence.
And some simply teach us to celebrate.
🌿 Living in the Present Moment
That day, I felt something different.
No future tension.
No regret about the past.
No emotional heaviness.
Just the present moment.
When I reached home, I felt physically tired but emotionally satisfied.
It was not just a temple visit.
It was a journey of learning how to enjoy my own company.
And maybe that is the real fast — fasting from fear and dependency.
💭 Final Thought
Have you ever taken a “wrong ferry” in life that gave you unexpected peace?
I would love to know your story.
