A Small Walk, A Sudden Mela, and a Book

Where ordinary moments turn into quiet stories.

Sometimes we step out of the house for a small task, but life quietly changes the direction of that moment. What we plan and what actually happens are often two different stories. Yesterday evening, I experienced one such unexpected turn.

In the evening, I went out of my house to get some documents xeroxed from a nearby shop. It was a simple task, something that should have taken only a few minutes. But life often has its own plans.
I walked around my neighborhood searching for a xerox shop, but I couldn’t find one. Since it was already evening, most of the small shops were closing. Still, I kept walking a little farther, thinking maybe the next corner would have one.
But that “little farther” walk took me somewhere completely unexpected.
Suddenly I found myself standing near a small mela. The place was full of lights, music, and the cheerful noise of people enjoying their evening. I didn’t even know this mela was happening there.

You can also read this amazing experience:

For a moment I just stood there watching the swings going up and down, children laughing, and small stalls selling different things. Then I thought, since I am already here, why not go inside? So I bought a ticket and entered.
There was nothing extraordinary inside — mostly different kinds of swings and small shops. But sometimes the beauty of a place is not in its grandness; it is in the simple moments we observe quietly.
While walking through the stalls, one small shop caught my attention. It was a book shop.
Naturally, I went there and started looking for some Hindi literature books. Unfortunately, there were not many options. Most of the books were in other languages.
But there was one Hindi book placed there: Dhoop Ke Sikke.
Written by Prasun Joshi.
A Small Walk, A Sudden Mela, and a Book

I picked it up, turned a few pages, and decided to buy it. Sometimes a single book is enough to make a small journey meaningful.
After that, I came back home.
I had gone out for a xerox shop but returned with a book and a small unexpected memory. And it reminded me of something very simple yet very true:

Sometimes the destination is decided by destiny, not by us.

Sometimes life takes us somewhere we never planned to go.

“Some journeys are written by destiny, and we simply walk through them.”
